After two albums as a quintet, Adrien Chicot’s trio returns to its original lineup, opening a new chapter in its artistic journey—one that is more intimate, more direct, and focused on the essence of collective playing.
This return to the trio format is accompanied by new original pieces, as well as some revisited arrangements, which enrich the repertoire and broaden the group’s sonic palette. In this more intimate format, the music gains in breathing room and clarity, allowing more space for mutual listening, interaction, and spontaneity.
The trio’s work is based on a balance between composition and freedom, where forms remain open and evolving. Each piece becomes a space for exchange, a living space that transforms according to the dynamics and contributions of each member.
On stage, this approach takes on a particularly embodied dimension. The trio develops a warm and organic energy, driven by a strong rapport and great responsiveness. The concerts become unique moments, where the pieces are reshaped in real time, in contact with the moment and the audience.
This new chapter affirms a clear direction: returning to a more essential form, where sound, listening and the pleasure of shared play occupy a central place.

BIOGRAPHY / ADRIEN CHICOT / PIANO
A native of Paris, Adrien Chicot taught himself piano from childhood. His dedication and curiosity about the instrument led him early on to
discover jazz, for which he developed a passion. He enrolled at the IACP, a school run by the Belmondo brothers, which quickly saw the emergence of a new generation of great musicians committed to experiencing jazz to the fullest.
Adrien Chicot quickly established himself on the young French jazz scene, becoming a reliable voice for a music influenced by the most classical artists (McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Ahmad Jamal, etc.) while remaining attentive to and engaged with the sharp mastery of contemporary jazz. His highly instinctive music, marked by a sensitive structure, has thus far involved him in the rhythm section of several ensembles, in which his harmonic poetry also plays a part (Samy Thiebault Quartet, Julien Alour Quintet, Jean Philippe Scali Sextet, etc.).
He performs at prestigious festivals in Marciac, Vienne, Ramatuelle, Sète, and others, as well as in the most renowned clubs in France, Europe, and New York, not to mention several tours in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
On these occasions, he has shared the stage and the studio with Lionel and Stéphane Belmondo, Avishai Cohen, Rick Margitza, Olivier Temime, Simon Goubert, Seamus Blake, Sophie Alour, and many other jazz pioneers.
Drawing on his years of experience, he composed his first album, All In, in 2014, which he recorded as a trio with Sylvain Romano and Jean-Pierre Arnaud. Playing in the Dark, his second trio album, was released in 2017.
Still highly inspired, his third album, City Walk, followed quickly, hitting stores in 2018. His unique interpretation of a timeless musical legacy is consistently met with enthusiastic and unanimous praise from the press.
The year 2020, which deprived him, like so many other artists, of concerts and tours, allowed him to dedicate himself exclusively to composition, and it was in this capacity that he conceived the music for Babyland, incorporating brass parts.
In 2022, he fulfilled a dream: actively participating in the recording of his second quintet album, a remarkable acoustic feat. Equipped with microphones, preamps, and other equipment… who made the greatest sounds of the Blue Note, he recorded the new compositions which will make up the album
Sound Of Eymet, released on March 3, 2023.
He returns today in a trio, a formation which he particularly likes.
BIOGRAPHY / SYLVAIN ROMANO / DOUBLE BASS
Born on March 26, 1980, in Marseille, Sylvain Romano studied at the Marseille Conservatory, where he earned a diploma in classical double bass and a gold medal in the jazz department in 2002.
He quickly became a highly sought-after sideman. He cut his teeth in the Marseille region, accompanying musicians such as Siegfried Kessler, Jerry Bergonzy, and René Mailhes.
He later moved to Paris, where he was hired by numerous musicians—including François Théberge (for his project with Lee Konitz), Patricia Barber, Rick Margitza, Laurent de Wilde, Franck Amsallem, Eric Legnini, and Baptiste Trotignon. A pivotal meeting with the Belmondo brothers soon led to his participation in most of their projects—such as Hymne au Soleil, Wonderland, and the Belmondo Quintet—and notably the Belmondo-Yusef Lateef sextet, which saw him perform on major international stages. He has also accompanied numerous musicians, such as Johnny Griffin, Roy Hargrove, Patricia Barber, Tom Harrell, Jeff Ballard, Tigran Hamasyan, Al Foster, Yusef Lateef, Nasheet Waits, Lee Konitz, Dave Liebman, Steve Turre, Jerry Bergonzi, Bill Pierce, Donald Brown, Rick Margitza, La Velle, Kellylee Evans, Valery Ponomarev, Sonny Simmons, Andy Sheppard, Siegfried Kessler, Glenn Ferris, Joe Cohn, François Chassagnite, Simon Goubert, Tim Ries, Jeff Williams, Bob Porcelli, Sara Lazarus, Alain Jean-Marie, Aldo Romano, Laurent de Wilde, Eric Legnini, Laurent Coq, Steve Potts, Marc Fosse, Daniel Humair, Baptiste Trotignon, Michèle Hendricks, Olivier Temime, Franck Avitabile, and Fabien Mary.
Today, he is a member of numerous regular ensembles: the Stéphane Belmondo Quartet (with Billy Hart and Kirk Lightsey), the Lionel Belmondo Trio (« European Standards »), the Baptiste Herbin Quartet, the Pierre de Bethmann Trio, the Stephy Haik Quartet, the Tigran Hamasyan European Trio (with Jeff Ballard), the Samy Thiebault Sextet, and the Théberge-Romano Duo.
BIOGRAPHY / PHILIPPE MANIEZ / DRUMS
A composer, drummer, arranger, and educator,
French-American Philippe Maniez has been making his mark for over a decade
on major jazz stages in France and abroad.
A long-standing drummer for the groups of Pablo Campos, Caloé, Fiona Monbet,
and more recently Dexter Goldberg, he has also spent years working
as a composer and arranger for leading figures in the international jazz scene.
Artists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Fiona Monbet, Becca Stevens, Sarah Lancman,
the Danish Radio Big Band, Frederik Steenbrink, Edouard Pennes,
Adrian Cox, and Veronica Swift call upon him to conceive and arrange
programs for large ensembles, ranging from quartets and big bands to full symphonic orchestras.
His personal project, « The Dedication Big Band, » released the album Explode in 2019,
following a two-year residency at the legendary Paris club « Les Petits Joueurs. »
Philippe Maniez has performed with a « who’s who » of the French jazz scene
(Sarah Lancman, Eric Legnini, Thomas Bramerie, Jacky Terrasson, Baptiste Herbin,
Gael Horellou, Pablo Campos, Marc Thomas, Tony Tixier, Le Duke Orchestra,

(Logan Richardson, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Pedro Martins, Genevieve Artadi, Fabia Mantwill,
Saul Rubin, Luigi and Pasquale Grasso…).
After three years teaching arrangement at the Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood,
he develops educational projects focused on arrangement and performance
in both small and large ensembles, implementing them at conservatories
in France and around the world.
